In Lund's Karate Club, we train Shotokan karate, the traditional style of karate that has the most practitioners around the world. The club was founded by Sensei Ted Hedlund and Leif Almö in 1973 and is thus the oldest karate club in Lund. We still have the privilege of having Sensei Hedlund, 8 Dan and Sweden's chief instructor, as the main instructor.

We are members of the Swedish Sports Confederation, the Swedish Karate Federation, Skåne Karate Federation and JKA Sweden.

Lund's Karate Club works actively for a safe sports environment and we work to ensure that children and adults can be safe when they train in the club. More information on RF's page on Safe Sports: https://www.rf.se/RFarbetarmed/Tryggidrott/

  • How much do costumes and equipment cost?
A suit, gi, lasts for several years. You can find price list for 2024 here. Do you want to order a suit or belt? Email Tomas, kingen50@gmail.com
  • How long are you a child?
In the children's group, people train between the ages of 7 and 12. In the youth group, people between the ages of 13 and 17 are welcome. In the adult groups, everyone trains from the age of 13 and up. Parents of children and young people are warmly welcome to train at their children's training sessions!
  • How often should I / can I / can my child exercise a week?
You train as often or as little as you want. At least 2 times/week is common. The more the better! Six days a week training is held in our own dojo, Skiffervägen 102.
  • My child will soon be 5/6/7 years old - is it okay to try training anyway?
Children normally start at the age of 7, but anyone who wants to can try! If the children are mature enough to join in the training, and think it's fun, they are welcome! It usually resolves itself.
  • Do parents have to exercise with the kids?
No, it's completely voluntary and just another way to practice! But the parents who exercise with their children express that they think it's great fun, and the children think it's fun too. You can always try!
  • What do you wear when you exercise?
Before you have bought a suit, and while you are trying it on, you train in normal training clothes - for example sweatpants and a T-shirt. You practice karate barefoot!
  • Where do I buy a suit?
You can buy clothing through the club. Talk to your trainer who will help you! You place an order and pay in advance, then the suit arrives after about 1 week. We have many different costumes at varying prices, for both children and adults. A suit, gi, lasts for several years. SEK 350 (approx.) costume for children SEK 500 (approx.) costume for adults Do you want to order a suit or belt? Email Tomas, kingen50@gmail.com
  • I come from a different style of Karate, or another Shotokan association. Can I train with you? Can I keep my belt?"
Everyone is welcome to train with us! We respect all styles and you get to keep your belt. If you want to graduate within JKA, your previous knowledge/style/association will be assessed individually by the head coach.
  • I have trained karate earlier in life, maybe graded and had an advanced belt, but forgot a lot, which group should I start in?
You can start in any group you want (to which you are graded). You are allowed to try your hand at it. It can e.g. be a good idea to train in a group with beginners a couple of times and then move up when you get started. You can move freely between groups.
  • What are the requirements for grading?
Karate is a way of life where in your karate training you strive to develop your character by seeking perfection in the techniques. You do not need to grade, but can train at your own pace and for your own development. If you want to grade from 2 kyu and above, you must tell your coach or email kingen50@gmail.com within 2 weeks at the beginning of the semester. Also remember that grading booklets are available for purchase You can find grading requirements here!

They are used, among other things, to keep member registers in order, distribute financial support or arrange competitions and training. There are special rules for how personal data must be handled in a safe and secure manner. On 25 May 2018, the Personal Data Act will be replaced by the new Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which means that the requirements will change slightly. Due to these changes, we have supplemented the membership terms and conditions with a privacy policy. It describes in more detail how and why we save your personal data and which rights you have.
